Rikkisum

Rikkisum is a hidden gem located around 10 kilometers from Algarah and offers an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the mighty Mount Kanchenjunga, along with sweeping vistas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Sikkim. This makes it one of the best viewpoints in the region for capturing the majestic snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas. The place’s natural beauty is further amplified by the expansive views of the surrounding valleys and hills.

However, the approach road to the hilltop is currently in poor condition, which makes access challenging. Once you reach the top, you will find a dilapidated bungalow that was originally built by the British in 1902. Sadly, the structure was burned down during the 1980s agitation, leaving behind only traces of its former glory.

Despite its current state, there is great potential for development in the area. Improving the approach road could make the location more accessible to tourists. Additionally, developing a trekking route for adventurers and nature lovers would make it an even more appealing destination. A small resort with around 15-20 rooms could provide tourists with an opportunity to enjoy the serene atmosphere and breathtaking views. A sunrise point could also be established, allowing visitors to witness the early morning light dance on the snow peaks, creating an unforgettable experience.

Rikkisum is a place that, with a little development, could become a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and trekkers looking to explore the untapped beauty of the Eastern Himalayas.
