Cross Hill

Cross Hill is a remarkable destination, offering not only breathtaking views but also deep historical and spiritual significance. Located at a vantage point, it provides a glorious panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, with Tibet clearly visible on a clear day. This makes it an ideal spot for sunset lovers who come to witness the sky’s beautiful colors against the majestic backdrop of the Himalayas.

For the local Christian community, Cross Hill holds special religious importance. It is regarded as a pilgrimage site, and many locals visit it regularly for prayers and reflection. The hill’s connection to the Evangelists adds a layer of historical poignancy. In the 19th century, many Evangelists who traveled to Tibet in hopes of spreading Christianity either lost their lives or disappeared. To honor their memory and symbolically keep their hope alive, Fr. Augustine Desgodins erected a cross in 1882 facing Tibet, a gesture symbolizing faith and the desire for the return of these lost missionaries.
