The Japanese Peace Pagoda in Darjeeling is a beautiful Buddhist shrine built between 1885 and 1985 by Japanese Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fuji. Situated 2.5 km from the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, this stunning white structure with golden sculptures stands on the slopes of Jalapahar Hill, offering a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The pagoda, 23 meters wide and 28.5 meters high, is one of several built worldwide by the Nipponzan Myohoji organization to spread peace and prosperity. Designed by M. Ohka, the pagoda stands as a symbol of peace, attracting visitors from all over the world.
The Japanese Peace Pagoda is open to visitors from 4 AM to 7 PM, with designated prayer timings from 4:30 AM to 6 AM and 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The entry to the pagoda is free, making it an accessible and tranquil spot for both locals and tourists to reflect and embrace its spiritual significance.
