Dali Monastery, located 2.5 km from Darjeeling Railway Station, is an important Buddhist site and a popular tourist attraction in Darjeeling. Also known as Druk Sangag Choling Monastery, it was established in 1971 by Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche and was later inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1993. The monastery belongs to the Kargyupa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and serves as a center for preserving the traditions and culture of Tibetan monks.
Built in traditional Tibetan architectural style, Dali Monastery is home to 210 monks who have come from the Himalayan region. It also houses a small library that provides resources for those interested in learning about Buddhism and the philosophical teachings of Tibetan culture. The monastery not only offers a peaceful spiritual retreat but also serves as the residence of Drukchen Rinpoche XII, the supreme leader of the Kargyupa sect.
