“Druk Path Trek” is renowned for its picturesque landscapes, ranging from blue pine forests and high ridges to pristine lakes, with the opportunity to explore ancient lhakhangs (monasteries), dzongs (fortresses), and traditional villages. The trek is considered relatively easy due to the short distances between rest camps, making it accessible for many hikers.
The Druk Path Trek takes you through diverse vegetation, including fir, blue pine, and dwarf rhododendrons, at altitudes between 2400 and 4200 meters. One of the highlights is Jimiling Lake, where the clear waters are known to harbor large trout. Additionally, hikers are treated to breathtaking views of Mt. Gangkar Puensum, the world’s highest unclimbed peak.
This tour begins with your arrival in Paro, where you’ll check into your hotel and then explore local landmarks including the Drukgyel Dzong and the Kyichu Lhakhang, a historic 7th-century temple. The following day involves a scenic drive to Chelela Pass, one of Bhutan’s highest motorable passes, with a visit to the Dzongdrakha Goempa temple. After this, you’ll embark on the Druk Path Trek, starting with a demanding climb from Paro to Jili Dzong, where you will camp. The trek continues through alpine forests and past pristine lakes like Jimgelang Tsho and Simkotra Tsho, offering stunning mountain views and a glimpse into the nomadic lifestyle.
The itinerary then shifts to a visit to Thimphu, where you’ll explore cultural sites including the National Library and the Takin Preserve. Following this, you’ll drive to Punakha to see the grand Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakhang, before returning to Paro. The final day includes visits to Tachog Lhakhang and Rinpung Dzong, before departing Bhutan. Throughout the tour, you’ll experience Bhutan’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and serene landscapes.
For the best experience, it’s recommended to trek during the spring (March-June) or autumn (September-November) when the weather is more favorable.
Day 01: Arrive Paro by Druk Air & sightseeing’s
Arrive at Paro International airport and transfer to your hotel on arrival check into your hotel and later in the day proceed to visit Drukgyel Dzong, along the way, visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King, Songten Gampo.

Day 02: Day Excrusion to Chelela Pass (75km round trip, approx 4 hrs)
After breakfast, driving excursion to Chelela pass.
Chelela (pass), at an elevation of 3,988 meters is considered to be one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. About 2 hrs of drive along a thickly-forested road, is a botanical paradise.
On your way stop to view the Dzongdrakha Goempa. Often called as mini Takstang, Dzongdrakha is a cliff-side temple complex on the western side of the Paro Valley.

Day 03: Paro – Jili Dzong. (Distance 7 km, 4-5 hours, 1,090 m ascent, camp altitude 3,480 m)
The first day can be quite arduous as you have to climb more than 1,000m elevation. You start from the Ta Dzong (National Museum) in Paro. The trek follows a gravel road past a few farms for about 30 minutes and then climbs up a steep ridge before leading through blue pine and fir forests to Damche Gom. Once you reach the ridge below Jili Dzong you descend about 100m to the campsite below the Dzong.
Day 04: Jili Dzong – Jangchulakha. (Distance 10 km, 4-5 hrs, 310 m ascent, 50m descent, altitude 3,770 m)
You begin with a steep climb for about an hour and a half, then the slope evens a bit and the ascent is more gradual. The trail takes you through thick alpine forests and dwarf rhododendron tress. You may see herders and their yaks around your campsite.
Day 05: Jangchulakha-jimgelang Tsho. (Distance 11 km, 4 hrs, 230m descent, 330m ascent, altitude 3,870 m)
The trail follows a ridge and on a clear day the view of the mountains and valley are simply stunning. The campsite is close to the Jimgelang Tsho Lake. This lake is known for its giant sized trout.
Day 06: Jimgelang Tsho– Simkotra Tsho. (Distance 11km, 4 hrs, 820 m ascent, 400m descent, altitude 4,110 m.
The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and past Janetso Lake. You may come across some yak herder camps where you will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of a nomad’s life. The campsite is close to Simkotra Tsho Lake.
Day 07: Simkotra Tsho –Phajoding. (Distance 10km, 3-4 hrs, 130m ascent, 680m descent, altitude 3,750 m.)
The day begins with a gradual climb. If the weather permits, you will have a spectacular view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and several other Himalayan peaks. From this pass, the trek takes you downhill towards Phajodhing where you will halt for the night. The camp is located just above Phajoding Monastery.
Day 08: Phajoding- Motithang. (Distance 4-5 km, 3 hours, 1,130 m descent)
After passing Phajoding monastery, the trek to Thimphu (Mothitang) is downhill through a forested area of mostly blue pine. The walk, at a leisurely pace, takes about three hours. The Druk Path finishes at the Bhutan Broadcast Service (BBS) Telecommunication Tower, offering great view of the city of Thimphu. Then after, drive to Thimphu city. Overnight stay will be at hotel in Thimphu.
Day 09: Local sightseeing in Thimphu
After breakfast drive to visit National Library and Institute for Zorig Chusum (Commonly known as Arts & Crafts School or Painting School) then drive to Takin Preserve – Takin is national animal of Bhutan, Later in the afternoon visit Trashichhoedzong, “fortress of the glorious religion”. This is the center of government and religion. The Folk Heritage Museum (Phelchey Toenkhyim), simply Bhutan museums and to National Textile Museum.. Evening time at leisure…
Overnight stay at the hotel in Thimphu (Altitude 2,320)
Day 10: Drive to Punakha (75km, approx 2 ½ hr drive.)
After breakfast, drive to Punakha across Dochu La pass located at a height of 3,088m/ 10,130 ft, Afternoon visit Punakha Dzong or (Palace of Great Happiness), built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the junction of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. Later in the day go for excursion to Chimi Lhakhang (the temple of fertility).
Overnight stay at the hotel in Punakha (Altitude 1,300m)
Day 11: Punakha to Paro (125km, approx 4 ½ hrs drive)
After breakfast drive back to Paro across Dochu la pass via Thimphu. On your way visit Tachog lhakang & Suspension Bridge which was built around 1420 by Thangtong Gyalpo who was great architect and saint of Bhutan. Then drive further to paro and after checking into hotel, proceed to visit Ta Dzong, then walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong (“fortress of the heap of jewels”).

Day 12: “Final Adieu” – Farewell & Departure
After the hearty breakfast check out of the hotel and transfer to Paro Airport enjoying the and there your team will bid you the final adieu with an undying hope of your visiting our country again to explore the unvisited parts and regions with many more adventures together.
