Yakgang Sang-Ngag Choeling Lhakhang

Yakang Lhakhang, a monument located in a countryside on the outskirts of Mongar town was built in the 16th century by Sangdag (the youngest son of Pema Lingpa) a famous terton. This temple is popular for its collection of religious treasures, masks crafts, musical instruments, armour, ancient weapons, and xylograph blocks used for printing prayer flags and texts. Insight it houses the religious treasures including a statue of Gautama Buddha discovered by Pema Lingpa in Mebartso (Bumthang) and a kila made by Pema Lingpa himself. It plays one of great cultural significance and a repository of a wide range of spiritual treasures and other sacred objects known to have been revealed by Terton Pema Lingpa. Annually three-day tshechu or ritual and Cham dance festival is held on the 8th, 9th and 10th of the fifth month of the Bhutanese lunar calendar. This festival is one of the oldest spiritual traditions held in eastern Bhutan.
