Wachey Cave, also known as Wangchen Ney or Ganjab Ney, is located approximately one hour’s drive from Dagapela town, followed by a one and a half hour hike from the road point near Emerery School. This ancient calcium cave features impressive remains of stalactites and stalagmites, creating a cavern approximately 150 feet wide and 30 feet high. Local Hindu communities revere the cave as a sacred site associated with Lord Shiva, reflecting its spiritual significance.
Meanwhile, Maha Devi Dham in Gangjab of Gesarling Gewog holds historical and religious importance. It was once cared for by a revered Sadhu known as Sadhu Bajay, who resided to the west of the sacred place. Sadhu Bajay’s devout reverence included planting oranges specifically for offerings to the cave, which pilgrims could pluck for ceremonial purposes but not for consumption. During his tenure, Maha Devi Dham attracted pilgrims from distant places like Paro and Thimphu. The cave itself accommodates over 1000 people underground, with entrances on both the East and West sides. The walls and entrances are adorned with numerous inscriptions, murals, and carvings, though their specific meanings remain uncertain. Accessible via a short five-minute walk from Gesarling secondary highway, Maha Devi Dham continues to draw visitors seeking spiritual enrichment and cultural exploration amidst its ancient and mysterious ambiance.
